Peskov: Russia mulls retaliation to Lithuania’s transit limits
MOSCOW, Jun 22 (PRIME) -- Russia is considering various options to retaliate against Lithuania’s transit restrictions to the Kaliningrad Region from the mainland, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday.
“Specific measures are being discussed, we have talked about it, of course, because in this case we are sure that illegal sanctions approved by the E.U. should not be applied to the situation. Imposition of the sanctions on transit to Kaliningrad and back contradicts the basic documents,” he said.
“The measures are being prepared. We will speak about them after weighing everything thoroughly… It is premature to speak about them now,” he added.
Earlier in June, the Lithuanian railways notified Kaliningrad railways of termination of transit of some goods, sanctioned by the E.U., since June 18. The transit of oil products to the Kaliningrad Region will continue until August 10.
